This year’s event, held from November 19-21, brings together an impressive 200,000 registrants, including over 14,000 in-person attendees in Chicago. With more than 800 sessions, demos, and expert-led labs, Microsoft Ignite continues to be a beacon for innovation and collaboration. Our SoftwareOne experts were present and explored new innovations in Microsoft 365, Azure, Security and Copilot.

Microsoft Ignite 2024 in Chicago

Microsoft Ignite remains a premier event that showcases the latest advancements designed to empower customers, partners, and developers. This year's focus includes the continuous evolution of Microsoft Copilot, new capabilities within the Copilot + AI stack, groundbreaking tools for developers, and new AI-powered devices. These innovations are set to redefine how we interact with technology, driving efficiency and productivity across various sectors.

One of the most anticipated highlights of this year's Ignite is the unveiling of Microsoft Copilot’s new features, which promise to enhance user experience dramatically. The advancements within the Copilot + AI stack are particularly noteworthy, as they integrate seamlessly with existing workflows, providing users with smarter, more intuitive tools. Furthermore, the introduction of new AI-powered devices underscores Microsoft’s commitment to staying at the forefront of technological innovation.

Azure Platform: Transforming Cloud Computing

Azure's commitment to revolutionizing enterprise AI is evident in several key announcements. These announcements reflect Azure’s strategic focus on enhancing AI capabilities to support a wide range of applications, from small businesses to large enterprises.

  • Azure AI Foundry - Now with enhanced integrations and the Azure AI Foundry SDK in preview, the platform helps organizations design, customize, and manage AI apps and agents at scale. This development is set to streamline the creation of AI solutions, making it easier for organizations to deploy sophisticated AI applications aimed at Enterprise Customers for now.

  • Azure AI Search - Updates include a generative query engine and integration with GitHub Models, enhancing retrieval augmented generation (RAG) performance. These updates are designed to improve the accuracy and efficiency of search results, making it easier for users to find relevant information quickly.

  • Azure AI Content Understanding - In preview, this service will simplify building and deploying multimodal AI apps, making it easier and more cost-effective. By enabling the integration of different types of data, Azure AI Content Understanding helps create more comprehensive and versatile AI applications.

  • Azure Managed Redis - Now in preview, this service offers cost-effective caching for AI apps, boosting performance by reducing latency and offloading database traffic. This improvement is crucial for applications that require real-time data processing and high-speed performance.

  • Azure Proactive Resiliency Library (v.2) (APRL) can be used to provide a curated catalogue of resiliency recommendations for workloads running in Azure. Azure Resource Graph can be used to query and help identify non-compliant resources.

  • Azure Monitor Baseline Alerts (AMBA) helps companies to streamline a base set of essential metrics and guidelines ensuring that services are performing optimally. Think pro-active not reactive for azure monitoring. Monitor AI on Azure platforms (PaaS) , ALZ's, AVD, Networking and specialized workloads. Monitoring packs are available across IaaS and PaaS platforms.

  • Azure Verified Modules (AVM) is an initiative to set a standard for what good infrastructure-as-code module looks like. It is essentially a toolkit with a common code base that improves code quality. The purpose of AVM is to provide a comprehensive library in multiple IaC languages following the principles of the well architected framework.

  • GitHub Copilot for Azure (Preview) revolutionizes developer efficiencies (new and experienced) The ability now to ask @azure questions about any Azure Services such as AI, compute, containers, databases, DevOps, network, security, and storage or to simply get help with tasks related to Azure and Azure development all with this Visual Studio Code extension (plus license).

  • Azure Essentials. Optimizing customer cloud investment, elevating reliability, security and ongoing performance of workloads for cloud and AI investments to maximize transformation. Essentially a resource kit to use for a best practice approach using frameworks and tools to ensure reliability, security, performance and efficiencies across 3 main stages in the transformation lifecycle.

  • Copilot Studio - Introducing autonomous agentic capabilities and an agent library to streamline agent creation and customization. This innovation allows users to create personalized AI agents that can handle specific tasks, improving workflow efficiency.

  • Power Platform - New capabilities in Power Apps and Power Automate will help users build intelligent apps and leverage AI for business productivity. These tools empower users to create custom applications and automate processes, reducing the time and effort required to complete tasks.

  • Windows 365 Link - Introducing a seamless, cloud-based computing experience, Windows 365 Link enables users to access their personalized Windows environment from any device. With enhanced security measures and high-performance capabilities, it ensures that users can work efficiently and securely from anywhere, making it ideal for the modern hybrid workforce.

  • Teams meetings AI Interpreter, which will enable real-time interpretation in Teams meetings, supporting up to nine languages at the start with more to follow. This feature will allow participants to speak and listen in their preferred language, fostering an inclusive and efficient meeting environment. Additionally, the AI interpreter can simulate participants' personal voices, offering a more natural and engaging experience. Complementing this is the new live translation feature for meeting transcriptions.

  • Teams will soon support multilingual meetings, where participants can select from 51 spoken languages and 31 translation languages. This means that live captions and transcripts will seamlessly capture and translate discussions, breaking down language barriers and ensuring everyone stays informed and engaged. These advancements in Microsoft Teams underscore Microsoft's commitment to leveraging AI to enhance productivity and inclusivity in the modern workplace.

  • Microsoft Security Exposure Management delivers a unified experience that empowers security decision-makers and practitioners to effectively assess and reduce exposure to cyberthreats. Now generally available to Microsoft Security customers, this comprehensive posture management solution consolidates disparate data silos, providing visibility of the end-to-end attack surface. It creates automatic, ongoing assessments of attack paths to critical assets and offers context-based prioritized recommendations to improve security posture across devices, identity, apps, data, and on-premises, hybrid, and multicloud infrastructures. Working in conjunction with Extended Detection and Response, Microsoft Defender XDR, and Security Copilot, Exposure Management enables organizations to adopt a continuous threat exposure management program to proactively identify and remediate attack paths, ensuring robust protection for both pre- and post-breach situations.
